The fourth film in the popular horror series, THE PROPHECY: UPRISING continues the story of the battle between the forces of heaven and hell, with mankind caught in the middle. There's no Christopher Walken this time, but that's no reason not to give this movie a chance! |

There's no Christopher Walken this time and it's basically an entirely new story. I must admit I've only seen the first Prophecy movie before this one and I thought it was kind of boring. I was intrigued by this movie because it 'stars' Doug (Pinhead) Bradley.
In short
I'm not good at lengthy reviews, so in short: I really liked this movie. It was exciting, had good character backgrounds, good acting, good story and amazingly very good special effects. Just like Hellraiser: Deader this movie was shot in Romania and it really helps the movie in terms of atmosphere and visual style. Unlike Deader, this movie really takes advantage of the buildings, streets and landscapes of Romania.
» The war scarred streets of Romania form the playing ground for Prophecy: Uprising.
Story outline:
One woman (Kari Wuhrer) has come into possession of the Lexicon, an ancient manuscript that continues to write prophetic words of its own volition. Little does she know that the Lexicon represents knowledge that a group of ruthless fallen angels, commanded by Lucifer himself, will do anything to obtain. Now in grave danger, she enlists the help of two European cops to keep the Lexicon out of the hands of evil for as long as possible. THE PROPHECY: UPRISING contains the same horror-themed action and suspense that the series has become known for.
» Doug Bradley as the Belial possessed officer Laurel.
An interesting element in the movie is the character Belial, another 'evil' angel who, like Lucifer is after the Lexicon as well. He skips from body to body, making it exciting to see how friends of the Kari Wuhrer character suddenly change into her enemies. The most memorable possesion is the possesion of the cop Laurel (nicknamed after Laurel and Hardy) played by Doug Bradley. His character starts out as a small background character with a Romanian accent, but at the end he gets possessed by Belial. It's Doug Bradley who gets the showdown at the end with the good guys AND Lucifer. He delivers his lines with such power and grace like we've come accustomed to from his portrayal of Hellraiser's Pinhead. But seeing him without layers of latex really let's us see his talent.
I recommend this movie to fans of:
- The Prophecy
- Hellraiser
- Religious thriller/horror movies
